Putting a name to a face—and a potato
We encourage direct contact between producer and consumer because we know this increases understanding of local food economy issues. We want to provide the greatest possible varieties of local foods while working together in a cooperative atmosphere to ensure the success of the market.
Expanding access to as many as possible
Making healthful food more available to low-income households is one of the top priorities of the Winter Market. We work with farmers, local agencies, and government programs—and support our local, sustainable food systems and farmers along the way.
We partner with the Farm to Family Fund to double SNAP benefits up to $18 a week. In addition, Farm to Family Fund, an independent 501(3)(c) organization, buys produce from our farmers who take the risk of producing food during the winter months. At the close of the market, Farm to Family Fund purchases food that farmers wish to sell at half price to donate directly to The Rise, Community Kitchen, and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.
Our mission as the Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market is to extend the farmers market season and increase the availability of fresh produce and other local products throughout the four seasons of the year.
Your donation will support Bloomington Winter Farmers Market and our mission to help more people live sustainably. Organization-wide initiatives, seed funding for new Projects, and more are supported by donations.
